Fish in a Tree

Fish in a Tree is a book focused on believing in yourself. It’s a book about self doubt and making decisions. Ally is a girl who has a problem when she reads called dyslexia. Dyslexia is when all the words you’re trying to read are scrambled. Ally always doubts herself saying she’s not good enough, like she doesn’t fit in. One of the things I love about Ally is her imagination. She looks at one ordinary object and makes a drawing of it that includes dinosaurs, drinking coffee, on donuts. I mean like who can do that every day. I love Ally no matter how much she doubts herself. Ally gets bullied a lot by a girl named Shay, and like all bullies have their sidekick, Shay’s sidekick is Jessica. They tease a lot of people including Ally and all her classmates. Her classmates don’t make fun of her they just try to blend in with Shay and Jessica. My favorite classmate is Albert. He always look’s on the good side of things using all of his science facts.

With every class there is a teacher in this case our teacher is a pregnant teacher, of course there’s the substitute Mr. Daniels. I love Mr. Daniels!!! He always try to see the bright way of things. For instance one of the classmates has a motor mouth where he can’t make it stop. So instead of yelling at him and totally embarrassing him he made a hand signal to say ” You’re talking again” and then he’ll be quite. He’s definitely kinda goes with things but he also doesn’t care about people’s side effects, he try’s to work with them. If I want a substitute I want Mr. Daniels.

This story to me is kinda what some people face today. About there differences and bullies like Shay and Jessica. This story if definitely a realistic fiction because some of these conflicts happen in real life right know as I type. I really wish it would stop but some people just don’t know when to quit.

An Open Letter to Glasses

Dear Glasses,

May I just say how uniquely beautiful you are…..

But you are very annoying.

You made a trend known as geek chic that is very cute,

But you can’t put your head down in school when you’re tired.

You’re an accessory that matches anything including plaid,

But you’re very expensive (green goodness gone).

There is contacts so there’s nothing bulky on your face,

But they’re hard to put on.

You help me see so much better,

But if I lose you than all I can see is blurry, fuzz.

Plus I have to bring you everywhere ( and you keep bothering me).

You bring out my geek side,

And help me see the bright TV screen when I’m playing video games.

I’m glad I don’t have reading glasses,

But I still have the faraway glasses.

You make me look smart at school even though I’m not,

And I respect that…

I don’t respect that you won’t let me run without it sliding down my sweaty nose.

I love you,

But at the same time I don’t.

Hope you understand.

Sincerely,

The face aka Rachel Brassanini
